Notes |
- Emanuel and Alfred Brummel had their own firm as textile middlemen. The shop was on Lower Broadway in SoHo near Prince Street. A Sunday New York Times Real Estate Section from Oct 1973- April 1974, in a front page article about SoHo, had a 1915 picture of the section of Broadway with Eman's shop on it. You could see the name Brummel clearly.
Eman lived for decades with Hannah Kaufmann.
My grandmother Cecilia told me that Eman always went to synagogue on the anniversary of his mother's death for a "Yiskor" service. He was a member of Temple Emanuel on Fifth Avenue since at least the late 1920s. I would suppose that that synagogue retains the list of "Yiskor" that was read out in the 1930s on each Yom Kippur and on the Shabbat closest to the death date of Johanna. The Family had permanent seats in Temple Emanuel for decades so there may be a record attached to this status.
